Assistive Technology

Blog Prompts What AT supports have you noticed in our placement classroom? If you haven't noticed anything, ask your cooperating teacher about it (ask how they accommodate students with IEPs or special needs). Do you recall AT supports in your elementary, middle, or secondary classrooms? What tools do you find helpful?     So, believe it or not, I actually haven't had the chance to ask them very much, they have a family member in the hospital and they've been gone when I'm there, and when they were there, this thought sadly didn't cross my mind. But I am proud to mention that there is a lot of assistive tech in the room, all the students have their chromebooks of course, but they have earplugs, text to speech for their online books, and my CT has audiobook formats for their read aloud book, so kids can listen to it if they have to miss it for whatever reason. Whilst I personally don't recall seeing any ATs in my classes, I'm sure my brother has, they have a...

SAMR Model, What Is It?

Image
The SAMR model is a way of adapting school traditions and concepts and translating them digitized experiences, ones that are similar to the experiences a student can expect to go through in class. The SAMR model has 2 halves with 2 stages each, One half focuses on Enhancing whilst the other focuses on Transforming. Substitution is the first way the SAMR model utilizes to enhance the Writing experience by swapping paper for Wonderous TECHNOLOGY, sadly Substitution is ineffective without it's close friend Augmentation, which is when something is added to take advantage of TECHNOLOGY to make learning more interactive, easier, or more efficient to students.      The first step of transformation is Modification, which changes a tradition style of assignment and turn it into something exclusive to the use of tech, like a Blog post, Thread, or Video. Finally, we can use tech to Redefine what tasks are even available to us to do, Edit a video! Maybe cre...

Blog Post Tech Integration and Misinformation

Image - https://catalyst.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/CAT.22.0198  Blog Post for wednesday     I chose the mis and dis information lesson, these lessons went over how mis and disinformation are different and how they appear online, the lesson also covers how we can deal and identify this "internet pollution". Mis-information is disinformation that is spreaded unintentionally/ unaware to the fact that it is disingenuous     My reasoning for picking this one is actually due to another class I took for math, which talked about misinformation and used math to calculate spread times for example. This lesson hit a lot of the same notes! (And in a fraction of a decimals worth of time too). yet I'm left with one question in particular, Who is charge of dealing with mis/disinformation? By the presence of classes, surely there's at least some organization in charge, and if not, should there be?     One of the things that I learned from both lessons is th...
